DEATH ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The Death Assessment will be raised to $5.00 per deceased member. This assessment will be effective January 2009. This assessment will be due in January and will be $30.00 per person. The payout will then be raised from $3,000.00 to $5,000.00. Death Assessments are not allowed to be a payroll deduction as it is a life insurance plan and it is illegal to be deducted from payroll cheques.
GENERAL NEWS:
At the General Membership Meeting on October 9, 2008, there will be nominations for the position of President, Vice President, and Executive Board Member.
GENERAL NEWS – Cont’d:
The Business Agent position went to Brother Jean Ducharme by acclamation due to the fact the other nominee running for the position was ineligible to run. We would like to officially welcome Jean as Business Agent and Officer of Local 254.
Also, a reminder to our members that our major Collective Agreements for Sprinkler, Mainline Pipeline, Mechanical and Refrigeration are on our website at www.local254.ca.
At the Refrigeration Meeting on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, there will be nominations for the Negotiating Committee for the new Collective Agreement in 2009.
WORK SITUATION:
Michels, Louisbourg Banister, and Waschuck Pipeline has started work on the Southern Lights and Alberta Clipper Line.
Comstock will be needing manpower shortly for the four Embridge stations.
Comstock is also looking for manpower for INCO in Thompson, Manitoba.
ACME Welding will be needing manpower for The Pas shutdown at the beginning of October.
The Commercial sector continues to be busy and is in need for trades-people in all areas.
GOOD AND WELFARE:
The Global Winnipeg Office is now closed and all claims must now be forwarded to the Toronto Office at:545 Wilson Avenue, Toronto, Ontario,
M3H 1V2. All questions regarding Pension and Health and Welfare should be directed to their Head Office in Toronto at 1-888-545-7889.
We are moving our PITC Apprentice Office into the space previously occupied by Global Benefits, hopefully by October 1, 2008.
SOCIAL NEWS:
Grey Cup tickets are now available for pick up. The fundraiser is to offset expenses for our Annual Children’s Christmas Party and Seniors’ Holiday Lunch. We would appreciate your support.
SOCIAL NEWS – Cont’d:
For those members who have children ten years of age and under and who have not yet already done so, please submit your child or children’s names to this office before the end of October. This year the party is on Sunday, December 14, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. Children must be in attendance in order to receive a gift. Any gift not picked up by Wednesday, December 17, 2008, will be donated to the Christmas Cheer Board. This party is for members and their families only. Grandchildren do not qualify unless they are children of a member. We hope to have another successful turn out.
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind the Seniors about our Annual Christmas Luncheon which takes place on Thursday, December 18 2008. Invitations will be mailed to you shortly.
